An evening hymn do we offer unto thee, O Christ, with incense and spiritual odes. O Saviour, have mercy on our souls.
Save me, O Lord my God, for thou art the salvation of all. The tempest of the passions doth disquiet me, and the burden of mine iniquities doth submerge me. Grant me a helping hand, and raise me up unto the light of compunction, since thou alone art compassionate and the Lover of mankind.
Gather my scattered mind, O Lord, and purify my hardened heart. Grant me repentance, even as thou didst to Peter; and heartfelt sighings, as thou didst grant to the Publican; and tears, as to the Harlot, that with a great voice I may cry unto thee: O God, save me, since thou alone art compassionate and the Lover of mankind.
Many times, as I offer praise, I am found committing sin; for with my tongue I pronounce songs of praise, yet in my soul I think unseemly things; but do thou correct them both through repentance, O Christ God, and save me.
