April 17
Commemoration of the Holy Hieromartyr Symeon, Bishop of Seleucia and Ctesiphon in Persia, and his companions

Stichera at "Lord, I have cried," Tone 4
Special melody: Unto them that fear thee.

On this day thy memory * doth beam forth rays of light as the sun, * shining down on the faithful ones. * All creation is filled with light * of divine resplendence; * and the gloom of passions * and darkness of the demons' host * are driven back, O thou blessed Symeon. * For this cause we too bless thy name, * and every year do we honor thee * as the beacon of all the world * who dost fervently intercede.

In wisdom didst thou exchange * the things of earth for things heavenly, * things which pass for things which endure, * fleeting glory which perisheth * for that which abideth. * The trials and torments * which thou enduredst thou didst trade * for the Kingdom of God inexpressible, * in which thou also makest glad * with thy co-strivers, O glorious one. * Make entreaty for all of those * who with faith praise and honor thee.

Thou, O Martyr Symeon, * hast pierced with the arrow thy words * the assemblies of lawless ones. * Thus the clouds of the heavens spoke, * lifting up their voices; * and the choirs of Angels * did clap their hands, commending thee * who in the contest didst steadfastly stand firm. * Wherefore, all we the faithful ones * with exultation do keep the feast * of thy holy falling asleep, * as the Saviour we glorify.

Theotokion.

Thee I importune, O thou * that art the pure palace of the King, * who art worthy of many hymns. * Purify thou mine intellect * which is stained and blemished * by all my transgressions; * and make thou me a dwelling place * which doth befit the most divine Trinity: * that I, thy useless supplicant, * may magnify thee, having been saved * by thine entreaties for my sake * and by mercy which hath no bounds.
