Making the passions subservient * to reason, O thou all-blest, * thou didst make thy soul brightly shine * through the virtues' many hues, * and through uprightness of belief. * Reaping a harvest of wealth from wisdom's field, * thou dost impart it to those that run to thee. * By grace thou didst become, * as befitteth God, a lamp of many lights; * thou art a magnificent * adornment of Christ's Church.
Gaining victory against the foe, * thou now receivest a crown * which is radiant with righteousness, * Nikephoros the all-wise, * who preservedst thy teachings pure. * A pillar of piety unshakeable * and an impregnable tower of defense * for the Church art thou become, * O thou venerable one of godly mind, * casting down all the array * of mindless heretics.
In the sanctuary wast thou seen * ascending the firmament, * mounted upon the chariot * of the virtues God-inspired, * charioteer of the upper air, * who, as the Thesbite, art now raised up on high, * whose zeal thou also didst strive to emulate, * slaying with the Spirit's sword * all the priests of infamy, cutting their throats * by the virtue of thy deeds, * O thou most blessed one.
Rejoice, O thou boast of all the world! * Rejoice, temple of the Lord! * Rejoice, mount overshadowèd! * Rejoice, refuge and retreat! * Rejoice, O lampstand made of gold! * Rejoice, august glory of the Orthodox! * Rejoice, O Mary, Mother of Christ our God! * Rejoice, O thou Paradise, * tabernacle and table of things divine! * Rejoice, jar of solid gold! * Rejoice, O hope of all!
